WeightReader

WeightReader determines the weight of swine without using a scale.The handheld scanner captures detailed body parameters of the animal such as length, height, and circumference of key components of the animal’s body. Using a detailed understanding of the animal’s biology, weight and surface area can be derived. WeightReader offers animal producers a solution to ‘sort-loss’, a discount applied to the sale of their animal when they are delivered either over- or underweight.

While currently optimized for swine, this technology is applicable to a variety of species. BST is evaluating commercial partnerships to make WeightReader widely available to producers. WeightReader was initially developed through funding from the Georgia Research Alliance.
